I feel like Animator comes more naturally if you are familiar with After Effects. Of course, it takes some time to master it, but once acquired, it is difficult to do without it.

There are probably less tutorials for Character Animator but Okay Samurai runs the official Adobe YT page for CA and his tutorials are very in depth and cover every aspect of the program- the only problem is there isn't a ton out there besides him so if you don't like his style you won't find much else. I do think Character Animator can look a little stiff but that's mostly because it's great at making videos so easy and quick with a webcam that people don't take the time to go back and tweak the movement and make them look better- it's great for outputting a lot of content if you're going for quantity over quality. Character Animator is always getting better, with new features rolling out regularly. Triggers put you in control when you want your character to change expressions or make a gesture. Especially for a South Park style thing where you probably aren't changing camera angles a lot so you will mostly just be animating from front or side views. It’s easy to build timesaving triggers, so you can create and save desired movements to keyboard shortcuts. While I think the program can be kind of wonky or hard to figure out when something isn't working right with the rigging but I think it makes the process of doing the actual animating so much easier once you have made the puppet and gotten it rigged.
